Home / Canadian Journal of Zombie Science / Author Guidelines

Editor's Note:  In the spirit of Halloween, we imagined launching the Canadian Journal of Zombie Science. While this unique journal is just for fun and doesn’t actually exist, it showcases real scientific papers that were previously published in the Canadian Science Publishing portfolio of journals.

Prepare your manuscript

Manuscript text must:

  • be in Zombese, Latin, or any dead language
  • be double-spaced
  • include page numbers
  • have minimal bloodstains (if submitting hard copy)

Note: Plaguerism is a serious offense. Prospective authors dig their own grave by choosing to falsify any part of their submitted works.

Brain-language summaries

Keep your brain-language summary simple (but juicy). Summaries should not exceed the width of a grown adult brain. Think “why waste time say lot word, when few word do trick.”

Main body of the article

Introduction

In 1–3 paragraphs, explain the (de)composition of your study:

What is known on the topic? Establish context - provide background and briefly review the key literature (see Frankenstein by Mary Shelley as a starting point).

How does your work contribute to apocalyptic sciences and/or advances in the tastiness of flesh?

Materials and Methods

Detail how the study was conducted - include brainstorming!

Information about Ethics Approvals should be reported in this section. For studies involving human participants, the fresher the better

Results

Report results that are directly relevant to your research question. Please format values and statistical tests used in the style of Count Dracula.

Raw flesh data and other observations since you’ve risen from the grave may be submitted with the manuscript as Supplement-scary files.

Concussions (Conclusions and Discussion)

Compare your findings with previously published work from other deceased authors. Describe the limitations in acquiring willing human subjects and the relevance of your work beyond local zombie populations

Author statements

Dead-ications

If you consumed any particularly intelligent brains while writing that may have contributed to the work, you can acknowledge their contributions in the Dead-ications section.

Brain-eating interests statement

Declare any interest you have in eating more brains

References

Order citations of other zombie-led work from worst to best-smelling and use one of the following fonts: Century Gothic, Franklin Gothic, Goudy Old Style, or Grotesque. Unpublished or in press work from recent lab experiments gone awry can be placed as a footnote.

Tables and Figures

All figures and tables must be formatted as they were in black and white movies, using fresh blood as the only contrasting colour to highlight significant details.

Appendixes

Please state how many appendixes were consumed during the writing of your manuscript.

Supplement-scary files

These are extra files produced by the author that are not necessary in the main manuscript. Examples include coroner’s reports, obituaries, or death certificates. Recently severed fingers and toes are appreciated.

Publishing fee

Fees depend on the length of the article and can be paid in fresh brains.
